Question: Is an apple and peanut butter ok to eat before I go to bed? Answer: Greek yogurt with low sugar would be better before bed bc dairy (casein) protein breaks down slowly. It will feed your muscles overnight. (Note: there are some new studies showing that casein protein feeds cancer, so do your research and decide for yourself, I personally use it) U really just need protein before bed. Fruit would spike your sugar levels which is not good unless you are going to be active. One other thing that might work for overnight is nuts. Nuts break down very slowly. I have read that it takes them 8 hours to turn into energy. You would have to watch your total caloric intake for the day since nuts are high in calories. Yes, nuts are high in fat, but its a good fat and your body understands how to break them down. I have a friend who ALWAYS drinks a casein protein shake before bed and then gets up in the middle of the night and eats a low sugar protein bar with a glass of milk. You just have to experiment and figure out what works for your body!
