Question from a mom: My family has been having problems with my brother for years. I believe he has a mental illness. He is also a drug user. We believe he has been shooting up his prescribed Ritalin which he has been getting for about 6 months. Every month when he gets his prescription the cycle starts...he has hallucinations and delusions, gets violent, and spins out of control. We have called 911 several times trying to get him Baker Acted and the police have refused to do so because they do not actually see him in the act of harming himself or others. In the past when he actually did get Baker Acted 3 times, no help ever came of it. He has threatened suicide multiple times and has scars on his chest from where he has cut himself. We are terrified that he is going to kill/seriously hurt himself or someone else. Does anyone know where to turn for help. Ive called SMA and they said if he wont come willingly (which he wont, weve tried), call 911 (weve done it). We are planning to have an intervention with him as soon as this cycle is over, and ask him to get help on his own. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!
