Quite an interesting story. For the longest time, Ive wished that visitors to our town would not just experience the art and atmosphere along Highland Avenue and San Antonio Street, but that they would venture into the community of Marfa itself, physically and metaphorically speaking. People work here and live here. Some, like those in my family, have done so for generations. Marfa has so much to offer. Not just a culture of art and wide open spaces, but a culture of everyday life. I wish visitors would do things like attend Marfa High School Volleyball and Football games, or sit in and listen to a city council or commissioners court meeting. Then, I feel, they would make the most of their experience in our tiny, West Texas town. When the appreciation for our community as a whole becomes greater than the commodification thats found its way here, then Marfa will truly thrive for all, visitors and residents alike.
