Quote Of The Day: Stephen-Ipalibo Lawson Nigeria’s - TopicsExpress

Quote Of The Day: Stephen-Ipalibo Lawson Nigeria’s problems will ever be there until we decide to build a true unified nation. Right now you don’t have a functional constitution that reflects the interests and wills of the ethnic groups. You have a system where there is no rule of law. You have a Federation that espouses federal character and quota system that ruins merit and promotes nepotism. Oil wells were stolen to the north under Mohammed Murtala, and you expect the Niger Delta to be comfortable with the merger derivation. True Federalism is the way to go. We cannot keep acting out the ostrich syndrome and think we will forge ahead as a country. There is so much wrong with this idea called Nigeria. Until the basics are addressed, even Mandela, Obama will fail in Nigeria. So it is not about GEJ. To compound our problems, we have hypocritical interests from the West and Europe. These developed nations don’t mean Africans well. Meanwhile, the myopic and greedy Africans can’t even read in between the hypocrisy of these western powers. Now did our lives transform under OBJ or Yaradua? We were the same people who declared that OBJ government was the most corrupt. This is not to make an excuse for GEJ. But there are youths who have empowered their lives through YouWin. Others have made good the opportunities available so far. Yes, GEJ could have done better and more with the heightened expectations people had of him. But…there is a but. The but is this question I have to ask. Would GEJ have done so much more if the Northern elements who claim Presidency is their birthright have cooperated with him knowing that Nigeria is all regions merged into one?
