RB Meets with IPU Delegation on Human Rights A delegation visiting Zambia from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is investigating the current environment for human rights under the Presidency of Michael Sata and the Patriotic Front. According to a press release issued this afternoon, former President Rupiah Banda has met with the IPU members to confer on these issues. At the meeting held at his office in Lusaka on Wednesday evening, the former Zambian head of State expressed gratitude that the two-man delegation had paid him a courtesy call. The delegation, that comprised Mr Juan Pablo Letelier, the president of the Human Rights Committee of the IPU and secretary Mr Rogier Huizenga, held a closed-door meeting that lasted about 30 minutes and was also attended by President Banda’s lawyer Sakwiba Sikota. And briefing journalists after the meeting, Mr Letelier said he was happy that the Zambian government had allowed his delegation to visit Zambia and meeting several stakeholders to assess the country’s human rights performance. zambiareports/2014/09/25/rb-meets-ipu-delegation-human-rights/
