RCMP have taken one man safely into custody in connection with a threat made this morning to police and staff at the Old Perlican hospital. Police say the man was taken into custody without incident at a home in Sibleys Cove and is being sent for a mental health assessment. Staff at the Old Perlican hospital received the threat this morning around 11:30. It involved an individual obtaining a firearm, and threatening the safety of both police and staff at the facility. RCMP descended on the hospital, which was secured, while they conducted their investigation, closing off the road around the building. Students from nearby Baccalieu Collegiate were also sent home as a precaution. Police are investigating to see what charges, if any, will be laid in connection with the incident.
