RE HERE: Foreign travel agents tour Boracay E-mail Print PDF By BOY RYAN ZABAL BORACAY — About 40 foreign tour operators and travel agents recently had a three-day familiarization trip to this island resort prior to the Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX) 2013. The “Best of the Islands” tour package was part of the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) aggressive program to promote and market Boracay tour operators abroad, said DOT–Boracay officer-in-charge Artemio Ticar. “The familiarization trip was certainly an opportunity for overseas tour operators and travel agents to acquaint themselves with the island’s attractions, and to persuade (foreign) tourists to visit Boracay,” he said. The PHITEX pre-event tour to the key Philippine destinations was made possible by representatives of the DOT’s marketing arm, the Tourism Promotions Board. Foreign tour operators from Australia, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the United States stayed in Boracay on September 2–4. PHITEX 2013 was held at the SMX Convention Center in Manila on September 4–6. It aimed to entice foreign tour operators to package the country in their tour programs and marketing portfolios. DOT targeted the wholesale travel agents of the world’s top 10 sources of tourists in terms of volume and revenue receipts led by China, Germany, United States, United Kingdom, Russian Federation, France, Canada, Japan, Australia and Italy. Among other invitees were Association of Southeast Asia Nations member-countries India, Taiwan, the Middle East and Korea. )
