READ SPEAK APPLY James 1:22 states: ”But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” The hearing of God’s Word helps to develop our faith. The Bible states: “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). However, hearing the Bible (e.g. reading, daily devotions, listening to a sermon, etc.) isn’t enough on its own. We must also be doers of what we hear; otherwise, we deceive ourselves by thinking it’s working but we’ll never see any results. Have you ever had to put a new bicycle together? Or any type of equipment that requires you to read the instructions before proceeding? It’s best to read those directions, or at least have someone else ready them for you, as you put the various pieces together until everything’s been assembled correctly. The same concept applies to our approach to the Word of God. We hear the word and read the word, but that’s not enough to activate it in your life. We need to apply it quickly, lest we forget what we just read, through confession and demonstration. For example, let’s say you need healing in your body. Start by looking up a scripture for healing like, 1 Peter 2:24: “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.” Then begin to confess that promise over your life. And by confess, we mean to verbally speak or declare something. Consider putting this into practice three times a day, similar to taking a medical prescription. Remember Jesus’ words in Mark 11:23: “…whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” Keep reading God’s Word, speaking God’s Word, applying God’s Word, and thanking Him for whenever you can until you see the results.
