RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH 11 PM TONIGHT FOR EXTREME EASTERN JACKSON COUNTY INCLUDING THE UNION CREEK, PROSPECT, AND BUTTE FALLS AREAS, AND ALL OF KLAMATH, AND LAKE COUNTIES IN SOUTHERN OREGON, ALONG WITH SISKIYOU AND MODOC COUNTIES IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA The National Weather Service Office in Medford, Oregon has issued the Red Flag Warning due to expected thunderstorms developing over the region. The thunderstorms are expected to bring frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes capable of starting fires. In addition, the storms will likely have gusty winds that will help new fire starts grow quickly. The storms are likely to be wet, but lightning striking on the peripheries of storms will be dry strikes well capable of starting fires that become established. Established fires may also be impacted by the winds from thunderstorms causing unpredictable spread in any direction. In addition, rapid rates of spread could happen. The storms are likely to bring heavy rain with them. This will be an aid to knocking fires down, but flashfloods, mud slides, and debris flows off the fire areas are of concern.
