REFLECTION ON THE DAILY READINGS BY FR. C.N ATTAH - Sunday, 07 December 2014. Prepare the WAY...[Is 40:1-5,9-11; 2 Pet 3:8-14;Mk 1:1-8]; 2nd Sun of Advent! The clarion call in the three readings of today is on preparing the way for the Lord. We may have a true picture of preparing the way, with the case of Nigeria, where state roads and particular locations are made to wear new looks for the visit of a president; the local government does same for the visit of a governor; and village roads are usually cleaned up for the visits of local governemt chairmen, etc. Unfortunately, this example is built more on hypocrisy than on altruism. It is at best a short time approach meant to deceive. It is far from the PREPARATION we are called to make for the Lords coming. The readings invite us to a DEEPER preparation of the way of the Lord, than mere clearing of footpaths. Hence, it includes an awakening of our faith in God who is coming to console us[Is 40:1-5]; a hearkening to the good news proclaimed from long ago, like by Isaiah, Malachi and Mark [Mk 1;1ff] and a return to living live lives without spot or stain so that He will find you at peace [2 Pet 3:14]. It is an invitation to go beyond the buying of new wears, and decoration our houses, to having new HEARTS of love for God and others; and decorating our inner lives with Godliness. May the Lord help us to prepare well His ways, and to be ready at His coming. Have a grace-filled Advent!
