REINTERMENTS TO IDLEWILD FROM KENT CITY CEMETERY. Many of the locals will recognize this row of stones in Idlewild Cemetery. These are the graves that were left when the Cemetery was moved from Kent City, in order for the Hotel to be built. Residents who had family buried in the Cemetery in Kent City could have the graves reinterred to their private lots. The ones left in the end the Township or Village placed here. Most of these were graves of people who no longer had family in the area. Over the next few days I am going to comment a bit about each individual grave. The first one is the one of the old stone that is out front from the rest. This grave is of Wilson Whitticus. He was a 64 year old and 3 month old Black man when he died in June 1879. He owned the property on the N.W. Corner of 17 mile road and Tyrone. Not much is known about him. He is listed in the 1870, Census and on a 1876, Plat Map of Tyrone Township. he is also in the mortality census which lists his death. That is all we know. He may of been a relative of the Vond or Cook families who also lived along Tyrone and in that area of the township. If anyone knows more please share.
