REMINDER! CALL TO ACTION! LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN re: BILLY STEWART SENTENCING! On June 7, 2013, Shelby County criminal court jury convicted Billy Stewart, former Memphis Animal Shelter employee, of four (4) counts of aggravated animal cruelty and one (1) count of animal cruelty. Billy Stewart’s sentencing date is July 18. We must demand, as tax-paying Memphis citizens, that Judge Skahan hold Mr. Stewart responsible for his heinous acts of animal cruelty and punish him to the fullest extent of the law. Since personal emails/letters are much more effective than postcards, petitions or even phone calls (they show more effort and therefore greater concern) please join the SOS Memphis’ Call to Action letter-writing campaign regarding Billy Stewart’s sentencing. Our deadline is July 7, 2013 and it takes just four simple steps: STEP 1: Draft a letter on the issue. For an example format CLICK THE LINK BELOW. Use your personal experiences and opinions to enhance the wording and facts. Important points to touch on in your email/letters: request the maximum time allowable and to have the sentences served consecutively, that a court order be placed on Stewart to never own/control animals, that any minors or elderly people in the house be evaluated, and that Stewart should receive psychological evaluation as well as therapy council. STEP 2: Address the letter to: Honorable Paula L. Skahan Shelby County Justice Complex 201 Poplar Avenue, Suite 519 Memphis, TN 38103 STEP 3: Sign the letter. You must include your name. You do not have to include a full address, but at least “Memphis, TN” STEP 4: VERY IMPORTANT!! To help send a stronger message, email your letter to Community Action for Animals (caamemphis@yahoo). CAA will collect all letters & bind them for delivery to the judge. This type of presentation to Judge Skahan will make for a much more impactful statement. You may also wish to keep a copy for yourself. sosmemphis/example-letter-to-judge-skahan/
