REPENTANCE II September 14, 2014 PROPHECY: Three things that God will do: 1. God will totally discard some in the Church: As the process whereby coffee is mixed with milk cannot be reversed, so are there Christians who have become so of the world that God had discard them and brew a fresh cup of coffee. 2. God will surgically remove some baggage from some Christians: a painful process in order to ready them for the move of God 3. God will purify some as in the fire: heat, pressure and suffering to remove the impurities. This refinement or purification will be done seven times. The judgment of God will come in the form of separation. God will separate a remnant to prepare for a particular work in this country. Repentance is one of the foundation stones of Christianity. Repentance is one of the most importance words in the bible. Repentance is a subject that the devil has not allowed the Church to preach. YESTERYEARs MESSAGE: God foresaw the coming economic crisis and gave His people a message of prosperity to prepare for this famine. However pastors used this message and abused the prosperity received. Instead of helping the poor, the widows and the orphans (there are over 700,000 orphans in Africa), the wealth has been hoarded and flaunted through the lavish lifestyles of pastors. The Gospel of prosperity has come to an end and a judgement will be meted out on those who have misused the prosperity received. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has been turned into a Bless me club - bless me, my wife, my children, us four and no more THE MESSAGE TODAY: Our first calling is to holiness not to titles etc. Be ye holy as I am holy. God is going to shake the Church. There will be a rumbling among Gods people - persons will be toppled because God is ridding the Church of parasites. Today, the message is repentance. John the Baptists message was repentance Jesus came and preached repentance The Churches of Ephesus, Pergamum, Sardus, LAODICEA, all were told to repent Unless we repent and have our sins removed, we cannot experience the refreshing, revival and the move of God. Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, Repentance precedes ministry, restoration, revival, transformation. It must be preached first in the House of God and then to the world. WHAT IS REPENTANCE: Definition: Repentance means An inward change of thinking and attitude. When your thinking and attitudes have changed, you have truly repented. Repentance does not always concern sin - it is a changing of mind and attitude from something therefore you can repent from something good. However, in the bIble the word refers to turning away from sin. True repentance: True repentance is when you turn from who you are and not only from what you have done. A change in mind should result in a change in behaviour. Repentance is the root - change in behaviour is the fruit. There are some of us who change our behaviour but our mind towards the sin has not changed. Many of us sin without fear of consequence; we do not fear the judgment of God. True repentance is not a single act but an ongoing attitude. We must always be in an attitude of repentance. We should never say I repented but I am repentant. We should live in the spirit of repentance. It is time for alarm when the Church knows no more about repentance than the sin loving world Richard Roberts FALSE REPENTANCE: - Self Defence implies that there has been no repentance: Repentance and self-defense can exist together. Whenever you find a person who is seemingly repentant and yet he or she is busily defending himself or herself, you know that it is not repentance. (Richard Roberts) People tend to make an excuse when faced with their sin: Adam said his wife gave him the apple King Saul when accused by Samuel of disobeying God, gave the following excuse: 1 Samuel 15:24 Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned. I violated the Lord’s command and your instructions. I was afraid of the men and so I gave in to them. We cannot hide our sin from God - He already knows who we are and our sin. Do not insult Gods omniscience. - Repentance is not personal: All sin is an affront to God: Joseph and the prodigal son acknowledged this. Psalm 51:4 Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge. God leveled four specific charges against David: 1. He violated the word of God: 2 Samuel 12:9 Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. 2. He violated Gods attributes (in this case omniscience) by trying to keep his sin a secret: 2 Samuel 12:12 You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.’” 3. He violated the person of God: 2 Samuel 12:10 Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’ 4. He treated God with contempt: 2 Samuel 12:14 But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the Lord, the son born to you will die.” In sinning, Davids greater problem was with who he was not what he had done. It is not enough to turn from what we have done but from who we are in our hearts. Psalm 51:5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Sin has a vice-like grip on our lives. Sin has contaminated everything we are and do. We focus on the big sins to such an extent that we do not even remember or recognise the little sin in us, the white lies that we have in us. There are sins lying dormant in us until the opportune time to be manifested. We must repent of who we are. Lord, show me the sin in me, show me how I am sinning against You and help me to be truly repentant of all sin.
