RHONDA BROOKS RECALL STILL ON TRACK GOLDEN VALLEY, AZ, AUGUST - TopicsExpress

RHONDA BROOKS RECALL STILL ON TRACK GOLDEN VALLEY, AZ, AUGUST 6, 2014: There is a rumor going about the Internet that the petition to RECALL Golden Valley FD Board member Rhonda Brooks has failed. Perhaps that rumor exists because the recall will not be on the November General election Ballot. Nothing could be further from the Truth. This campaign is still on track to give Golden Valley citizens an opportunity to decide if Rhonda Brooks should be recalled. In fact, the time line has barely passed the 1/3rd mark, with 75 days to go in the process. Since the community response has been so positive, we have obtained over 300 signatures, more than 60% of the amount. Most of them were obtained within the first three weeks. The intense heat and the very small window of opportunity effectively prevented the placement of Director Brooks recall election on the November ballot. The real deadline for gathering the 483 signatures and submitting them to the Elections Department is October 20, 2014. If there are sufficient valid signatures within 90 days, a Special Election will be declared. However, there will be an election of two Board members this November. And the “Battle Lines” are clearly drawn. That will be the bellwether for any Special Election. Director Brooks will see if her allies and vicious District critics, Duncan Borden and Jack Hommel are successful in defeating Board member Paul Gorham or two other candidates, Earlene Mahar and Louis Tranka for the two slots. People will (accurately) claim that a recall will cost the District over $14,000. But Director Brooks has cost the Taxpayers OVER triple that amount in legal fees with her voluminous complaints to the Attorney Generals office and excessive contacts and complaints to the attorney for the District. In fact, in the 15 months that Ms. Brooks has been contacting the attorney with her many complaints and inquiries, regular District business fees have increased Ten Fold to over $50,000. The overwhelming majority of that expense is directly traced to her complaints and inquiries. Further, she has repeatedly ignored Board requests to stop creating chaos at the office, start using the District e-mail system for more efficient communications, and first direct her questions to the Chief or the Chairman. Finally, Director Brooks has made dozens of requests for records, costing the district excessive time to fill those requests while refusing to use District resources to review the documents directly. By contrast Brooks has consistently violated that same law on which she relies to fulfill her requests, refusing to provide documents in her possession, including her E-mails discussing District business. This election will be about Director Brooks and nothing else. She has to answer to the citizens of Golden Valley who elected her.
