RICHMOND REACHES MILESTONE IN WIN OVER AQUINAS January 26, 2013 For Immediate Release Box score Fort Wayne, Ind. – Junior Ulyssia Richmond (Temple Hills, MD/Riverdale Baptist) became the latest Indiana Tech women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 career points in helping the Lady Warriors to an 81-74 victory over conference foe Aquinas College on Saturday. Richmond, who entered the contest needing just four points to reach the milestone, connected from behind the arc at the 17:23 mark to tie the game 5-5. Just over three minutes later, she buried a jumper to put her over 1,000 points. The basket came as part of a 9-0 run which gave the Warriors the lead for good. Holding an eight point lead with four minutes remaining in the opening period, Tech outscored the Saints 14-5 the rest of the way to take a 44-27 advantage into halftime. The Warriors scorched the nets in the first half shooting 59 percent from the field, and went 5-for-10 from three-point range, while Aquinas hit just 37 percent of their shots. The second half was a different story though as the Saints reversed the trend and knocked down half of their field goals, including four triples to climb back into the game. Tech extended its lead to 22 at the 12:12 mark, but the Saints slowly worked their way back cutting the deficit to three with less than two minutes left on the clock. Rachael Kruse (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) and Chelsea Carradine (Redford, MI/Thurston) would answer though with clutch buckets, and Preonda Reese (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop) would put the game away at the free throw line. Kruse finished with a team-high 20 points followed by Richmond and Rayana Villalpando (Bellflower, CA/Downey) with 14 apiece, which was a season-high for Villalpando. Carradine and Kaneisha Bass (Detroit, MI/Lincoln Trail) cleaned up the class for the Warriors racking up seven rebounds each. Indiana Tech (11-12, 9-6 WHAC) will look to push its winning streak to five games when they visit No. 10 Concordia University (18-4, 14-1 WHAC) on Monday, Jan. 28 beginning at 7 p.m. For more information on Indiana Tech athletics please call the Athletic Office at 260-422-5561 ext. 2492 or visit our website at indianatech.edu/athletics
