RIP "Bentsub" Ben Hinton whom passed away end of May2013. TRIBUTES have been pouring in for a local Paphos hero who passed away last week and will be buried today. Bentick ‘Ben’ Hinton, 63, a British expat was found dead in his home on Tuesday morning last week after suffering a massive coronary. He is best known as ‘Ben from Ben’s bar’ on the Tomb of the Kings road in Paphos, although he sold the pub to new owners a few months ago. Paphos police presented the former marine commando with a special award for his bravery in 2009 after he prevented an armed robbery in Paphos. Hinton stepped in when the manageress of the Tombs of the Kings’ branch of the Hellenic Bank in Paphos was threatened by an armed robber and forced him to run away. He said he saw red when the armed man held the pistol to the head of the manageress. At the time, he told the Cyprus Mail: “I wasn’t having that,” said Ben. “Angela is a lovely lady and she was terrified.” He came up behind the robber and grabbed the arm holding the pistol. After wrestling with him, the robber left the cash and ran away. The former bar owner has also worked as a construction manager on oil and gas projects and spent 13 years in Russia before moving to Cyprus. He had lived in Cyprus for the last 15 years. His funeral will take place today at 4pm at Ayia Anargiri church in Kato Paphos.
