RIVER CLEANING: To understand the state of the rivers in India, one does not have to go too far. Just take a walk along River Meshri in Godhra. Take actual notes or mental notes of what you see. Then go talk to your parents or grand parents. Ask them what they remember of River Meshri when they were growing up in Godhra attending primary, secondary or high schools. You might say OMG.. River Meshri was ever like that? And not the Gutter it has turned in to? Most of the rivers in India are in a sorry state. It is Ganga which is mostly in the news because of its revered status. The promises of cleaning the most of Ganga in three years ( By Uma Bharati) are no more believable than bringing 15 lakhs rupees per person from Foreign Banks. In Governments own terminology, they are not immature to make promise like that. Those interested to educate themselves are invited to read one of the many papers written on Ganga cleaning. The attached link will give you some idea about how complex it is now to clean Ganga. Even Mr. Modi will not be able to do it by remaining in power for next twenty five years. The point here is, politicians, regardless of the party affiliations, make statements people want to hear, knowing people have short memory. As long as leaders have this perception of the voters, they will continue to give false promises. The media and the voters must stay on these issues and pester the leaders till either they deliver on their promises or confess they deliberately misguided the public for their votes. geosocindia.org/abstracts/2011/aug/pdfs/r1.pdf
