RIVERS PDP: VISIT TO JONATHAN UNDERMINES TRUE RECONCILIATION… ABE The Senator representing Rivers South-East in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe has described the visit by the Rivers Chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to President Jonathan as capable of truncating reconciliatory moves among aggrieved members. Senator Abe who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Bori Headquarters of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State observed that the group that visited the President was a faction of the party leadership in the state. “I am a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party but was not invited; the Deputy Governor Engr. Tele Ikuru, to the best of my knowledge was not invited; members of the House of Representatives were not invited just as several other stakeholders” he emphasized. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) branded the delegation as people against Governor Amaechi, christening the visit “a vengeance mission rather than peace”. Senator Abe observed that such visit clothed with blackmail and mudslinging, cannot bring reconciliation or neither create peace “except they are saying the peace process has been abandoned for vengeance mission”. “In the address presented during the visit, Governor Amaechi was accused of instigating crime in the state. Such comment is anti-peace” he said, stressing that “if you are aware that the governor is instigating crime, report him to the police, arrest the perpetrators and let them tell you how the governor instigated them to commit crime”. The onetime secretary to the Rivers State Government advocated togetherness among party faithful especially at this challenging moment explaining that uniting members genuinely should be paramount to all who want President Jonathan to succeed. “If you felt you were excluded, which makes you unhappy, trying to exclude others will not bring peace in the party, we will have peace when there is a sense of inclusion; that visit to the president will not bring peace and reconciliation because it was a shadow of inclusion” Senator Abe declared.
