ROBES TO RUIN (DANNY AND MATILDA) – 38 - WHY DO PEOPLE DIE? (20) - Danny and Matilda drafted an email to Mrs Spellbeck (cc the Vicar and wife and the churchwardens) in which they apologised for any offence caused. They made it clear, however, that they weren’t apologising for the message. Matilda typed it up and the email ended with love and kisses (what a little sweetie) and it was sent off by 2pm - And now for Matilde’s CRIATIVIDADE ;) - Imagine, Danny Boy, you had wanted to do something silly with your life, and you ask Dad and he advises you not to. You ask Mum, and she advises you not to. One by one your friends advise you not to - you don’t get the message, however, and the Quest continues: there must be someone out there who will give me the favourable counsel I so desperately crave - Your message was something people soOh didn’t want to hear, but it was straight from the Bible, and it was disturbing. Mrs Spellbeck was the bearer of the favourable counsel they so desperately craved – well it wasn’t so much counsel as rhetoric: “when people have served their time in prison, they are released; people who offend God remain in prison for ever and ever; go figure” – here is someone in authority questioning your message: suggesting maybe things aren’t as cut and dried as you said; implying maybe there is hope for us after all. - Well, as it happened the views of the Vicar and his wife on the coming wrath were not so different from those of Danny and Matilda, but for them it was a matter of regret – anyway a morning Celebration was not the time or place… - So although interrupting the sermon was not on – people felt Mrs Spellbeck was speaking on their behalf. - Her question, however, deserved a response: Danny and Matilda would think it through ;) -
