ROOKIES MAKING IMPACT ON FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY MODIFIED DIVISION IN 2014. FULL SATURDAY RESULTS STORY BELOW... ANTHONY PERREGO FINDS FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY TO HIS LIKING WITH BACK TO BACK MODIFIED WINS. YOUNG MODIFIED DRIVERS MAKING A BIG IMPACT IN DIVISION AT FIVE MILE… FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MAY, 31 RELEASE KIRKWOOD, NY...Modified rookie Anthony Perrego has found Five Mile Point Speedway to his liking by winning back to back Modified feature events at the quarter mile oval. The victory this past Saturday in the Spring Championship event was worth $1,500. There has certainly been a youth movement in the weekly division at the speedway in 2014. Three Modified wins have gone to Rookies in the division this season. Perrego has collected two and P.J. Goodwin was a race winner on May 10th. Veteran campaigner Brian Weaver leads the current point standings after this past Saturday over sophomore Modified driver Chris Wood. Wood finished second on Saturday. Another Modified rookie, Nick Petrilak currently sits in third place in the Modified point standings entering this Saturday night’s twin feature events. Perrego missed the opening night point race on May 3rd but still finds himself seventh in the point standings and if his strong start is any indication he certainly could put himself in a great position for the 2014 American Racer Cup. That program is based on a driver’s best 12 finishes at their weekly track. Here are the full results from Saturday, May 31st. Brian White notched another win in Sportsman racing on Saturday while Jason Butler and Matt Roberts were both victorious in Street Stock racing action. In IMCA racing action Kurt Decker collected his first career IMCA Modified win at the Point. Andy Brigham was back in victory lane in the Lightning Cat Expert division while Jason Victory won the novice race. Will Eastman bounced back from a bad night last Saturday to claim the win in the Excel 600 c.c. Modified main. Anthony Perrego made it two wins in a row in Modified racing as he charged up from his 11th place starting spot. Jeff Schall and Sam Allen brought the field to the green flag where Schall grabbed the lead on the first lap. Schall looked strong in the opening laps as he led the first 8 circuits. A lap 8 caution found Schall the leader while Mike Colsten had moved up to second from his 8th place starting spot, Sam Allen was third, Anthony Perrego had moved up to fourth from eleventh, and Nick Petrilak completed the top 5. On the ensuing restart Colsten was able to race by Schall to take the lead and lead the next four circuits. By lap 12 Colsten began to fade slightly with a broken torsion bar and Perrego used the opportunity to take the lead. As the race moved on a final caution would come out on lap 22 with Perrego continuing to lead. Chris Wood moved up to second and made several bids for the lead prior to the yellow. Brian Weaver was third, Colsten fourth, and Dan Creeden completed the top 5 at that point. Perrego was able to hold off the challenges of Wood in the closing laps en route to the win. Wood finished second, Weaver finished third, Dan Creeden fourth and Kevin Bates completed the top 5 after starting deep in the field. In victory lane Perrego was outspoken about the multiple groves of racing . He commented, “This place is great, we could put the car anywhere we wanted to in turns three and four and found a better line high in one and two.” He added, “Chris (Wood) showed his nose a couple of times and it was just fun racing with him.” In the early stages of the race Perrego raced through the field on the inside of the track then moved to the outside in the later stages. Tire wear continued to be a non issue as race winner Perrego used the same left rear tire for the fourth consecutive feature, with plans to use it next week as well. Brian White continued his strong start to the season as he was victorious in the Sportsman 20 lap feature. White started in seventh but by a lap 8 caution found himself in third. Brad Szulewski led the opening 15 laps from his second place starting spot. In the closing laps White challenged Szulewski for the race lead as the two ran side by side for several laps. White would eventually take over on lap 16 and held on for the remaining 4 laps. Szulewski held on for second, Kenny Hammond finished third, Randy Green finished fourth, and Eddie White rounded out the top 5. The held over Street Stock feature win went to Jason Butler, while Matt Roberts won his third race in as many weeks in the regularly scheduled 20 lap feature. The win for Butler was in dominating fashion and for Roberts he took advantage of a $100 winners bonus posted by Joel Batzel of Nitro Fab Chassis in the second event. Kurt Decker made the switch to the IMCA Modifieds full time in 2014 and collected his first win of the season and first at Five Mile Point Speedway. Decker worked past Gary Roberts and left the field in a very strong performance. Will Eastman bounced back to collect the 600cc Modified feature win while Andy Brigham and Jason Victory were both victorious in Lightning Cat action. This Saturday will be a full show of racing as well as the held over Modified Twin 20 race from last month. It will also be Kirkwood community night as well as Youth Night where kids 17 and younger will be admitted free. Race time this Saturday is 6 p.m. There will be no increase in admission for the double Modified feature events. Quarter Mile Comments…It was a very emotional night at the speedway as during the week the community lost a hero in Christopher Skinner…Mr. Skinner, a New York State Trooper lost his life during a highway traffic stop during the week…He was also a member of the Five Mile Point Fire Department…Members of the Five Mile Point Fire Department and New York State Troopers paid tribute to him prior to the start of racing…After a victory in the held over Street Stock feature Jason Butler proposed to his fiancé in front of the grandstand and received a yes and loud approval from the fans in the stands…Mike Colsten debuted a new Troyer Chassis on Saturday and quickly raced to the front only to have mechanical woes slow his charge…Another busy night of racing due to early May rain shortened events was completed just after 10 p.m…A whopping 8 feature events were held on fantastic track conditions that provided typical multi grooved racing on the quarter mile oval… MODIFIED OFFICIAL FEATURE FINISH SCHEDULED (30): ANTHONY PERREGO, Chris Wood, Brian Weaver, Danny Creeden, Kevin Bates, Mike Colsten, Jackie Brown Jr., Nick Petrilak, Richard Smith, Jamie Batzel, Darrell Ford, Barry White, Ray Jashembowski, Jeff Crambo, Jeff Schall, P.J.
