RUMOURS CRIPPLE LIFE IN VALLEY: Sunday morning, most of the shops in Srinagar’s civil lines opened but were shut after some time as rumours spread that one boy was killed in Qamarwai area of Srinagar. In Valley, it was a day of rumours and social networking sites particularly facebook played a vital role in spreading rumours. First rumour that forced shopkeepers to shut their shops was about the killing of a youth in Qamarwari area of Srinagar. As the rumour had its desired impact, another rumour started floating about some deaths in Baramulla and Sumbal. It is pertinent to mention that Syed Ali Gelani led Hurriyat had given a strike callfor today also. Later in the afternoon, some shops opened in several areas of Srinagar and private transport plied on almost all the routes. Some inter-district transport too was plying in the afternoon. Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that certain people were trying hard to vitiate the atmosphere by spreading rumours. “Rumours of a young boy being killed in Sumbal, were floated by certain fake identity holders on Facebook. Reportedly one person with Facebook identity as Syed Naseem had also updated about death of a youth in Safa Pora which was not true. He later removed this post. “All these Facebook miscreants are being identified and action would be taken against them. In this regard a case FIR No. 57/2013 U/S 67 IT Act and 505 RPC has been registered in Police Station Kothibagh,” the spokesman said. IGP Kashmir Abdul Ghani Mir has appealed to all the people not to heed to the rumours. He has asked all news channels to publish or broadcast news, after proper confirmation. Curfew was imposed on Friday in all areas of Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal and Bandipora districts and Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag, Bijbehara and Sopore towns. It remained in force on Saturday also. Restrictions under section 144 CrPC, which does not permit assembly of four or more persons, remained in force in rest of the Valley during the past two days. More than 100 persons, mostly security force personnel, were injured in the clashes between protestors and law enforcing agencies — on Friday and Saturday — in the wake of Ramban firing incident.
