RUSSIAN MOVIES BANNED IN UKRAINE The leader of the Communist Party of Ukraine called humanitarian terror a ban of movies The White Guard and Poddubny. The White Guard is based on a novel and a play by the Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov The days of the Turbins, who is also known for his novel Master and Margarita. From Wikipedia: The Day of the Turbins... became a theater legend... The production ran from 1926 to 1941, it had 987 performances... Stalin... saw it no fewer than 20 times. In fact, the play completely overshadowed the book, which was in any event virtually unobtainable in any form. Since Bulgakov was refused permission to publish his most important works, he pleaded with Stalin to be allowed to leave the country. Stalin personally arranged for a job for him at the Moscow Arts Theatre. Bulgakov was still writing and re-writing his uncompleted novel, The Master And Margarita, when he died in 1940. His widow had The White Guard published in large part in the literary journal Moskva in 1966, at the end of the Kruschev era. This was the basis for the English translation by Michael Glenny published in 1971 (New York: McGraw-Hill; London: Collins; reissued 2005 by Academy Chicago Publishers). This lacks the dream flashback sections. In 2008 Yale University Press published a translation by Marian Schwartz of the complete novel, an edition which won an award. Set in Ukraine, beginning in late 1918, the novel concerns the fate of the Turbin family as the various armies of the Russian Civil War – the Whites, the Reds, the Imperial German Army, and Ukrainian nationalists – fight over the city of Kiev. Historical figures such as Pyotr Wrangel, Petlyura and Pavlo Skoropadsky appear as the Turbin family is caught up in the turbulent effects of the October Revolution. The novel contains many autobiographical elements. Bulgakov gave the younger Turbin brother some of the characteristics of his own younger brother. The description of the house of the Turbins is that of the house of the Bulgakov family in Kiev. (Today it is preserved and operated as the Mikhail Bulgakov Museum). In fact, if one would study the tumultuous history of Ukraine, based on works, such as The White Guard, you could understand the inherent antagonisms and forsee the tragic events of today in Ukraine. This move marks a beginning of total censorship and prohibition of cultural works in Russian language in Ukraine. Communist party leader Petro Symonenko said that an expert Commission on the distribution and screening of movies was in charge of the ban. On July 28, Ukrainian State film agency within the framework of the implementation of the sectoral measures in the sphere of culture in relation to the Russian Federation, and in accordance with the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers dated July 23, 2014, # 278 on the establishment of the Committee on the application of the sanctions to persons who support and finance terrorism in Ukraine, adopted a decision on the mandatory screening of movies of Russian production, planned for showing across the country, on their conformity with national legislation. The majority of experts who watched The White Guard, considered that this film demonstrates disregard for the Ukrainian language, people and nation, - said the statement of Goskino. So, allegedly, taking into account the protection of the national interests in the information and cultural space a decision was made to ban the showing of these films in Ukraine. No luck to Bulgakov. He became the enemy of Ukraine ... Like the classics of literature, whose books were burnt during the raid of the Commnist Party Office in Kiev, became enemies of Ukraine. And, Im sure the time has come to protect our cultural heritage from the dictatorship of Nazi-fascists, - said Petr Symonenko. The leader of the Communist Party of Ukraine believes that this situation points to the targeted public policies on discrimination of Russian culture in Ukraine. dnr-news/dnr/1799-lider-kpu-uvidel-gumanitarnyy-terror-v-zaprete-pokaza-filmov-belaya-gvardiya-i-poddubnyy.html
