Racial Profiling and Ill Treatment of Blacks by Cops Yes, there - TopicsExpress

Racial Profiling and Ill Treatment of Blacks by Cops Yes, there is racial profiling and yes, blacks are singled out and at times ill-treated by cops. But lets take a look at why that is the case. Is it due to racism? Or poverty? Partly. However, blacks make up 13% of the population yet commit 50% or more of the crimes. THAT is why they are profiled today far more than racism or poverty. Such has not always been the case. In 1960 there was more racism by far than there is today and plenty of poverty in the black community - and yet the crime rate was much, much lower. So what has changed? The black family has changed. In 1960 far more black fathers married and were part of the family unit which raised their children. In 1960, 22 % of black children lived with single parents (over 90% of them lived with their mothers). In 2006, the percentage had risen to 56%. A child who has no father figure is much more likely to drift into a gangsta mentality and commit crimes. As Obama observed, children who grow up without a father are five times more likely to live in poverty and commit crime; nine times more likely to drop out of schools and 20 times more likely to end up in prison. Racism has diminished greatly (we did just elect a black President twice) - to the point that racism is becoming a tired old card to play to excuse black profiling and crime. What needs to be changed is the black neighborhoods - with better mentoring, more involvement by churches and other organizations, fewer children born out of wedlock, and a system which trains and lifts up black youth and rewards work and two-parent families instead of one which pays for and perpetuates having babies out of wedlock.
