Then, the next day before dawn we drove down to the beach, traveling several miles over the hard sand looking for birds working to go surfcasting for Striped Bass. Arthur and I did not say anything as the jets went over offshore, back and forth. When still in the Toyota truck I tried to take some photos, but tears kept rolling down my cheeks. I do not know why, probably the collective shock. Finally, standing in the surf, not casting, he came up to me, both in our waders holding our rigs, and took me into his arms saying in his deep throated Brooklyn accent, Not many will say they were running from office in NY as they blew the place up. Such, was Arthurs humor, if you understand his from office comment. Those who personally knew Arthur know his one-liners were epic succinct comments on life . . . and they continue to be, popping up in our lives as we trudge the road.
