Rain over night and the temperature has dropped to a beautiful cool 16 degrees... less than 1/2 what it was yesterday.... aahhh... recovery! 3 wet rabbits enjoying cool green grass outside my window, raindrops on roses & everything else. Searing winds have transformed into wispy cool breezes... I do hope rain arrives soon to help fire-fighting elsewhere in Australia. Its a terrifying phenomenon, & over the past few years, I dont know if its a climate change effect, or if its media coverage (makes a good story, of course) fires seem far more likely & devastating. Yesterday, on my way home, I passed Hastings/Cribb Point fires - saw so many speeding fire trucks, sirens blaring, lights flashing, rushing into danger - just being in proximity to such a phenomenon is deeply upsetting. At the beach, with melting pencils & hot little dog, I couldnt sit on the actual sand, but camped in a picnic area off a car park, because dogs arent allowed on the beach in summer, & theres no shelter from the sun anyway. I couldnt work, & I had to spend money on petrol & fresh food (my food overheated in its insulated container). Life in a eucalyptus forest is no longer a life for me... Its all very well to be told leave, & leave early by Country Fire Authority, but actually, there is nowhere to go... and I hear on Mount Dandenong, the electricity was out almost all day... NOT a safe situation at all... I found a dead bird in the garden... they just drop dead out of the trees in the heat sometimes... And Mr Treadwell, isnt speaking to anyone today... hes exhausted... I hope we dont get too much more extreme weather like this, and thank you for all your well-wishes. Its nice to know you care... and understand that sometimes, a day at the beach is not fun, but a survival tactic. X
