Ramp Facts received the following letter from an ATL below wing agent. To Delta Management, It is sad that you would offer to give out a 5% profit sharing check next week (October 3rd) and a pay raise (equaling .96 cents) April 1, 2015 to frontline Delta employees. The reason I say sad is that it is also the time that Southwest Airlines employees are closing in on a new union contract that may exceed $30/hour. The fact that earlier this year we only received 10% and not 15% of the profit sharing we get in February makes me not have to ask where the 5% came from. But I do question why it is that after a record breaking quarterly profit, why is it the raise is so small and why is the effective date April 1 and not January 1. We are the only airline that works two man gate crews, the only airline loading HRs that weigh 300/400 and 500 pounds, the only airline loading huge amounts of freight, the largest amount of mail and still load passenger bags. Southwest flies only one type of aircraft, while Delta flies more than 12 types of aircraft. Shouldnt that alone command a higher and more respectful salary than we receive? In other words, the time has come for someone to help Delta employees understand why they are forced to work unsafe working conditions, harassed daily about ever changing work rules, paying for what may be termed the worst health care benefits in the airline industry, and being paid the least competitive salary for the work they do. The days are gone for comparing Delta workers to Jet Blue and other smaller airlines. I would just like for someone to explain these things to myself and my fellow Delta coworkers because we already know that this does not make us the top paid in the industry. It can be a town hall meeting, or work briefings. We would just like an explanation. Thank You
