Rams Up To Second After Seventh Straight League Win With the benefit of the slope and a very strong wind, the Rams went ahead after seven minutes. A ball over the top found Mark Eade and although he lost possession, the ball broke loose to Chris Conroy whose cleverly-judged lob put his side one up. The Rams had by far the better of the play and chances, Karl Amos hitting the bar and Eade and Alex OKeefe off target. The closest Calder 76 came in the opening 30 minutes was Remi Allans floated attempt which passed narrowly over the angle of post and crossbar. In an eventful final five minutes of the half, Conroy chased a ball seemingly destined for a goal kick and skilfully kept it in play before winning a free kick. From his delivery, OKeefes smart glancing header doubled the Rams lead. James Bunn was quickly off his line to block Calders best chance before Allans tap-in at the back post sent the visitors from the field in a visibly confident mood given that the weather conditions and slope would now be in their favour. Minutes after the restart, OKeefes cross was almost deflected in but the keeper made a fine recovery and Calder drew level on the hour. A goalmouth scramble following a corner ended with Ricky Topham forcing home from close range, a score which saw the visitors step up the pressure. The Rams, however, were far from reduced to purely defensive duties and took the lead after 70 minutes with Eades penalty after Chris Dunne had been brought down. Calder hit the post after Bunn, desperately back-pedalling, palmed out and after the ball ping-ponged in the area, Jake Bakers incisive pass picked out Conroy just inside his own half, clear and with lots of space ahead. He raced goalwards but, one-on-one, put a clear chance over the bar. Calder became increasingly frustrated with the referees sometimes not always correct offside decisions at crucial stages of their build-up play and they fell 4-2 behind ten minutes from time when OKeefes pace took him past a defender and his low cross was converted by the sliding Conroy. The visitors were far from finished and four minutes from time Matthew Rushworth, who had a strong game in defence, made a crucial tackle and played the ball back to Bunn but the keepers miskick landed straight at the feet of Topham who hammered in via the underside of the crossbar. There had been a fracas earlier in the game and, in the closing minute, a reckless challenge from one of the visitors saw players from both sides gather in animated fashion but the referee conveniently decided to blow the final whistle rather than deal with the situation. Momentum is building and this was an impressive win against a good side who had beaten the reigning champions the previous week. May you live in interesting times. Rams: Bunn, M.Rushworth, King, Baker, Amos, D.Rushworth, Dunne, Risdon, OKeefe (Abson 87), Eade (Spencer 75), Conroy (Popek 86). Rams 4 - 3 Calder 76 Att:26
