Ranchers in Utah oppose the sale of 800 acres of SITLA land to the private non-profit Nature Conservancy, saying it will increase federal influence. The deal, intended to protect Utahs unique species of prairie dog, would put $1 million into the states permanent school fund. Some say, though, that prairie dog numbers are underestimated and they dont need protection. Should the land be sold? What should be done about Utahs prairie dogs?
