Randall, the fight to keep the FCC from gutting net neutrality - TopicsExpress

Randall, the fight to keep the FCC from gutting net neutrality and potentially destroying the internet as we know it underscores a key point that been largely ignored by the media: The internet has become central to American life and the modern economy, but is still regulated as a private “service” instead of a public utility. In fact, bowing to the massive public outrage over their proposal to destroy Net neutrality, the FCC is now accepting public comments on whether they should regulate broadband internet access as a utility. Sign and send the petition directly to the FCC: The internet is a public utility. Regulating the internet as a public utility would solve a lot of problems and it would allow the FCC to prohibit internet service providers from creating internet “fast lanes” and “slow lanes” to extort payments from companies like Netflix. Title II of the Communications Act of 1934 already grants the FCC the authority to declare the internet a public utility and provide greater regulation to the telecommunications industry. It’s time for the FCC to exercise that authority. Sign this: It’s time to regulate the internet as a public utility. Keep fighting Rachel Colyer, Daily Kos P.S.
