You may ask, why post this today? Its a holiday and people dont want to hear this. Yet this information is what I am also thankful for today. That in the face of blatant and below the surface racism in America, that there are scholars who arent afraid to speak truth on the ongoing slaughter of minorities in this country. Micheal Browns life was taken without just cause. Now before you think, Well the grand jury blah, blah, blah, or that black on black crime is blah, blah, blah, or even that the people honoring Brown looted the store he robbed blah, blah, blah, stop for a moment to think, how many black and brown people are shot under questionable circumstances and never are even reported on or talked about? Well Keith, the justice system is designed to be blind and blah, blah, not see race, blah, blah. Well when you continue to perpetuate the narratives which are fed to the masses of people in this country through well developed campaigns, when you only focus on that this day is a holiday where we should only post feel-good verbiage while ignoring that Browns killer, because he is a peace officer, is free today to eat dinner with his family while you choose to not to review the overall, well documented percentages of black and brown people of this country who are shot and killed by police without any investigation, when you choose to not understand the overwhelming rate of black and brown people who are over-policed and incarcerated, then you choose to be the one who is blind to the fact that a small percentage of the overall population of this country is disproportionately targeted, profiled, demonized, dehumanized and murdered with no accountability. So on this day, I am thankful for the opportunity to sit down with people I care about and enjoy wonderful food in the company of great people. I am also thankful for the pain in my heart for those who have died at the hands of a militarized and racist police state because it is that pain which drives me to gain education on how to prevent and protect people, who due to a biological variation which causes the shade of their skin to be of a darker shade, from being murdered in the streets and left to cook in the sun.
