Rant of the day: I see so many people who complain about the lazy, poor, government leaches, saying things like they should just get off their ass and go get a job! Yet, when people have jobs and still cant make ends meet, others say things like, thats your own fault for not having the skill set for higher earning jobs. So theyre damned if they do and damned if they dont? This whole mess about minimum wage doesnt need to be raised! Work hard and itll pay off! Is just that- a mess. Im not justifying anyones poor life choices, but its not exactly easy to find jobs that provide well when you dont have a college education, and many dont have access to a college education for a variety of reasons. Hell, even having a college degree these days doesnt guarantee you a job! Not to mention, someone is always going to have to be the burger flipper if you want to continue having access to food that you dont have to cook, and lets be honest here- not everyone has the same level of intelligence or potential to learn. Those people, despite any poor life decisions they may or may not have made, their education or intelligence level, or whatever other factors, still deserve a livable wage. It should never be a choice between eating or having a roof over your head, or eating and keeping the electricity/water on, especially when kids are involved. Do I think they should be paid enough to go on shopping sprees and have all the latest fashion trends in their closet? No, but they should be able to afford food and housing.
