Rare Footage of Legend Muhammad Ali’s 1978 Bangladesh Visit Boxing legend Muhammad Ali visited Bangladesh in February 1978 at the invitation of the then President Ziaur Rahman. Muhammad Ali came with his wife Veronica Porsche Ali and visited the scenic Bangladesh extensively during his short tour, including Coxs Bazar and the Sunderbans. To mark the visit of this one of the kind boxing legend – the government of Bangladesh issued him an honorary Bangladeshi citizenship with a complementary plot in Cox’s Bazar. In the emotional reaction of the love of the Bangladeshi people and their unparalleled hospitality – Ali declared holding his new Bangladeshi passport, “If someone wants go to heaven, he should come here. If I get kicked out of America, I have another home”. - বক্সিং কিংবদন্তী মুহম্মদ আলী ১৯৭৮ সালে তৎকালীন রাষ্ট্রপতি জিয়াউর রহমানের আমন্ত্রণে বাংলাদেশ ভ্রমণ করেন। তার সাথে তার স্ত্রী ভেরনিকা পর্শ আলীও আসেন এবং তারা সীমিত সময়ে কক্সবাজার ও সুন্দরবন সহ বাংলাদেশের প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য্যমন্ডিত বেশ কিছু অঞ্চল ভ্রমণ করেন। জীবন্ত কিংবদন্তীর এই ভ্রমণকে স্মরণীয় করে রাখতে তৎকালীন বাংলাদেশ সরকার মুহম্মদ আলীকে সৌজন্য স্বরূপ বাংলাদেশের নাগরিকত্ব এবং উপহার হিসেবে কক্সবাজারে এক খন্ড জমি প্রদান করে। বাংলাদেশের সৌন্দর্য্য ও বাংলাদেশিদের অনন্য আতিথ্যে আবেগপ্রবণ হয়ে মুহম্মদ আলী তার নতুন বাংলাদেশ পাসপোর্ট উঁচিয়ে ঘোষণা করেন, “জীবদ্দশায় যদি কেউ স্বর্গ দেখতে চায়, তার বাংলাদেশে আসা উচিত। অ্যামেরিকা যদি আমাকে কখনও বহিষ্কারও করে, আজ এখানে আমি আমার দ্বিতীয় গৃহ পেলাম”।
