Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “I’ve considered having a man lead people at prayer and going myself to those who hang back from attending the Friday prayer to burn their houses down upon them.” [Sahih Muslim] The wolf devours the lone sheep. A sheep that stays alone is the one that a wolf preferentially preys on. A Muslim who has gotten distant or cut off from the community of Muslims becomes an easy target for Shaitaan. Meeting other Muslims on Fridays helps to maintain at least minimum ties with the Muslim community. The Khutbah before the Jumah prayer is a reminder of our obligations towards Allah (subhana wa ta’ala), to whom we have sold our lives in exchange for Jannah. Therefore, foregoing the Friday Zuhr prayer in Jamaat (congregation) in order to pray alone is one of the kaba’ir (major sins). [Imam Dhahabi’s Kitab al-Kaba’ir / Book of Enormities] Praying Jumah in the masjid is an obligation on Muslim men and not on Muslim women because the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Going to the Friday prayer is obligatory for every male who has reached puberty.” [An-Nasai] Women did attend Jumah in the time of the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam). However, the Jumah prayer has not been enjoined upon them in the same way that it is for men, so that if it difficult for them to attend they do not feel compelled. Women are the VIPs in Islam. They are treated with extra care, supported and protected. They are not told to go out even to earn their own living and must be provided for. Thus, to save them from hardship, attending the Friday prayer is not obligatory on them
