Read 1 Timothy 6 Sam Polk made more money on Wall Street than most of us will ever see. In his eight years of trading, he earned bonuses as large as $3.5 million. He could buy anything he could imagine. He eventually realized he was addicted to making money. It was difficult, but Sam finally escaped Wall Street. His opinion now? “Wealth addicts are responsible for the vast and toxic disparity between the rich and the poor and the annihilation of the middle class.” This is a long article – I urge you to read it. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:10 NASB) This verse is one of many biblical warnings about the desire for money. In this chapter Paul points out several results from ranking money too high in priority: • You falsely believe that being godly brings you financial gain (v. 5). • Desiring riches leads to many temptations and ultimate ruin (v. 9). • Being rich can lead to selfish pride and dependence on possessions (v. 17). A healthy set of priorities puts God first and financial gain well down the list. That has certain outcomes too: • Contentment with what God provides is true gain (vv. 6-8). • God provides everything we need to enjoy life (v. 17). • Generously sharing and helping others brings true life (vv. 18-19). The world runs after money. God has better things in mind for you. Prayer Thoughts Thank God for the true life He has given you. Seek His guidance in everything regarding money.--Taken from The *Perfect 2014 Devotional Guide, by David Rex Gosnell
