Read on to find out why you shouldnt be using bleach to clean your house... Bleach is as much of a toxin as it is a cleaner. Reactions include respiratory issues, skin burns, nervous system damage, asthma, headaches, vomiting, damage to skin, and it may be linked to cancer. Many sources say that chlorine by itself is not hazardous and will break down before it reaches the environment, which may be true (or not). The real hazard of bleach is that it can’t be mixed with ammonia, vinegar or other acids, and even organic matter, which is exactly what bleach should be cleaning! The compounds formed cause a reaction with bleach that emits toxic, potentially carcinogenic fumes. Bleach helps contribute to poor indoor air quality. And its not even very effective: Bleach has to dry on the surface you’re trying to disinfect in order to kill all the bacteria. If it doesnt dry, it doesnt clean. To further complicate its efficacy, bleach becomes ineffective when it touches organic matter. Any food or organic debris on whatever you’re trying to disinfect must be completely cleaned off before spraying a bleach solution on.
