Read on to the end! Tuesday, March 25, 2014 The Absalom Complex King Davids third son, was Absalom. 2 Samuel 14:25 describes him: But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head, there was no blemish in him. Absalom had his half brother Amnon killed because he raped Absaloms sister Tamar. Absalom fled and after three years he returned to Jerusalem. Absalom remained afar from David for two more years. Absalom had a daughter and three sons. The sons apparently died as Absalom built a memorial to himself. 2 Samuel 18:18, Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar...for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance... Absalom finally was able to receive forgiveness from David. But Absalom was full of himself. 2 Samuel 15:1 says, And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him chariots and horses , and fifty men to run before him. And Absalom rose up early and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city are thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel. In essence, Absalom appointed himself judge over the people, usurping the power of David and endearing himself to the people by telling them what they wanted to hear. Then he led a rebellion against his father. Absalom defiled his fathers house, and was taken in with evil counsel to pursue and kill King David. The end of Absalom came in a great battle against Davids forces. To this day, the name Absalom is associated with ego, pride, and usurpation. Fast forward to the present. The occupant of the Oval Office is to arrive in Brussels, Belgium as one leg of his current European tour. He will remain in the country for 24 hours at a cost of nearly $14 million to the city of Brussels--not including the millions of travel expenses picked up by American taxpayers. The mayor of Brussels says the cost is 20 times the cost of the four European Union summits it hosts each year. The UK Guardian reports: The president will arrive on Tuesday night with a 900-strong entourage, including 45 vehicles and three cargo planes. Advance security teams orchestrating every last detail have combed Brussels already, checking the sewers and the major hospitals, while American military helicopters were last week given the green light for overflights...Belgium itself is mobilizing 350 police and military on motorbikes to secure the presidents routes to EU and NATO summits on Wednesday, while a convoy of nine US helicopters will take [him] to an American first world war cemetery. 2 Samuel 18:18 ends with, ...and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absaloms place. Have a Blessed and Powerful Day! Bill Wilson
