Read this today on Rossville Church of Christs fb page as a post and thought it too eloquent to fail to share. Please read this carefully. The church sign pictured said basically that unless a person attended church God would punish that person. Saw this church sign posted. Unfortunately, when it comes to Gods judgment thats a popular impression that people have. Its unfortunate because it is a misunderstanding. We are not sent to Hell because we do not worship God. Punishment in Hell is what we have earned due to sin. If Heaven is with God and Hell is apart from him, then Hell is the natural consequence (and a completely fair consequence) of a life stained with sin. The Bible makes it clear, Jesus did not come to condemn us (to send us to Hell). * see John 3:17. We were condemned already because of our sin. Jesus came to rescue us. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. (Colossians 2:13-15) God isnt a mean old guy in the sky waiting to punish anyone who doesnt give him enough attention. Rather, his compassion is so grand that He took the initiative to send a Savior on a rescue mission to save us from the consequence of our sin.
