Many people consider a vegetarian diet to be insufficient in terms of the major food groups, Right combination of foods can actually turn out to be one of the healthier diets to follow Vegetarianism is a way of life which may come to us naturally because of our ethnic background or it can be a conscious decision irrespective of the cultural and ethnic origin Let us consider different categories of vegetarians Vegans- those who eat only plant foods Fruitarians- when the primary diet consists of fruit Lacto vegetarians- a combination of plant & dairy products Lacto ovo vegetarians- lacto vegetarians who also consume eggs Lacto ovo pesto vegetarian- lacto ovo vegetarians who consume fish Dietary advice for vegetarians- A strict vegetarian diet may get very bulky unless supported with milk & milk products or alternatives like soya milk, groundnut milk, tofu If you are a vegetarian do not over do the consumption of refined form of cereals and pulses like maida and besan which are invariably used in form of snacks Vegetarian diet should emphasize on coarse based cereal preparations like stuff paratha, daliya, muthias. Use a combination of pulses, nuts, oilseeds in the making of foods at home to get the right proportion of amino acids and proteins in the diet In order to enhance the absorption of iron from green leafy vegetables incorporate vitamin C like lemon juice in the food while sitting to eat A combination of pulses and cereals definitely provides complete proteins, make sure you have a combination of both So go green & go Vegan !!!!
