Reader Contribution - How far Back from the vehicle in front should you be? 1) This is a million dollar question - as far back as you need to be to brake and stop safely - keeping in mind the vehicle behind you also may need added time and distance to slow down and avoid colliding with you. 2) What is the point of stoping with ABS and Traction control while maintaining minimal distance to the vehicle in front when the semi-trailer behind you will simply go over the top of you after you stop - give yourself room to slow the vehicle down behind you as you also slow to avoid the hitting the vehicle in front of you. 3) Unexpected things can and DO happen - in your car, on the road and around you - give yourself room in front and behind you to give yourself the best chance of survival. 4) Do NOT cut the driver of a truck or 4 WD off by coming in front of them too soon after passing them (plan your move with room to move) - they will NOT be able to stop as quick as a modern family sedan and could collide with you and send you off the road or into on coming traffic - the rest will then be history you may not be around to recollect. 5) These are tips from an every day driver and NOT a professional - always consult a professional and follow their advise.
