Rear facing toddlers are 5x safer than children of a similar age - TopicsExpress

Rear facing toddlers are 5x safer than children of a similar age who are forward facing. This isnt a shaming tactic. Its just the truth. Its science. In a frontal collision, which direction are you pulled? Forward. A forward facing toddler is going to hit the straps of their car seat and fling forward from the neck and shoulders. This puts incredible strain on the neck and spine, and can cause internal decapitation. In the same collision, a rear facing toddler would be pushed upward, into his seat, effectively spreading the force of the accident across a greater area. In a rear collision? Same logic applies. A rear facing toddler is actually even more protected, because their head would be placed more toward the center of the car, away from the crumble zone. Worried about broken legs? Worry not, my friend! Children are actually MORE likely to break their legs when forward facing, because there is nothing to support their legs. Plus, wouldnt you rather your child have a very treatable broken leg? Especially when the alternative is a potentially deadly broken neck or spinal cord? There are plenty of seats on the market that accommodate both heavy and tall children. Size is not an excuse.
