Recap from episode one (1) to six (6): So far we have learnt that King Dashrath from the Kingdom of Ayodhya performed the rite for a son and was granted four sons; Ram who was born to Queen Kaushalya, Bharat who was born to Queen Kaikeyi, and Lakshman and Shatrugan who were born to Queen Sumitra. Ram was well mannered and taught his younger brothers good deeds. He was the favorite amongst his brothers and was envied by Manthara, the maid of Queen Kaikeyi. The princes had soon reached the right age to be educated and so they were taken by Priest Vashishtha to Gurukul where they would have to stay for a number of years. Meanwhile the consort of Ram, Sita, appeared to King Janak of Mithila as a baby while he was performing the Brahma rite which was done to prevent drought to the land. He raised her as his daughter and later they discovered that she was capable of lifting the Shiva’s bow which no common man could do; as King Sudhanvad had attempt to take the bow and felt humiliated and consider King Janak his enemy when he failed to do so.
