Received today (?!) from Elizabeth Warren in response to something I wrote during the attack on Gaza. Has it taken them this long to formulate a measured response? I HATE when the attack is formulated as a conflict between Israel and Hamas: the conflict is between Israel and the Palestinians, and it stems from the Occupation and racist, murderous Israeli policies. Dear Sue, Thank you for contacting me to share your concerns about the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas. I am deeply concerned about the civilian loss of life in this recent wave of violence between Israel and Hamas and I am glad that, after 50 days of conflict, both sides agreed to a ceasefire. I believe that Israel has the right to defend itself, and I also welcome the $414 million in humanitarian aid that the United States has committed since July 21, 2014 for food, shelter, medicine, and other needs of Palestinians in Gaza affected by the conflict. I am hopeful that a sustained ceasefire will allow for the greater flow of this critical assistance and the resumption of negotiations toward a two-state solution. Thank you again for your input, and I will keep your thoughts in mind as I support efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
