Recent rainfalls in the Front Range, especially in the Larimer - TopicsExpress

Recent rainfalls in the Front Range, especially in the Larimer County foothills, has caused rising levels of the South Platte River. The river has risen steadily since yesterday and will likely continue to rise up to, or over, flood levels. Some local river levels; Kersey Friday morning 6.5 feet - Saturday afternoon 7.7 feet Weldona Friday morning 3.9 feet - Saturday afternoon 5.7 feet At both of these locations, Flood Action Stage is at 8 feet, Flood Stage is at 10 feet with Major flooding considered to occur at 12 feet (for example, flood levels in September were at or near 18 feet). While those levels should not rise anywhere near the flooding of last September, those floods have definitely caused changes in the riverbed and channels and rises in water may cause flooding in low land areas not normally experienced. The National Weather Service reports we can expect possibility of slow moving thunderstorms with heavy rains through Monday. Heavy rains to the west of us, especially on existing snowpack in the foothills, could cause additional heavy stream flows which will dump into the South Platte. We will continue to monitor conditions and county residents should only consider this an advisory at this point.
