Recently, I received my DNA analysis from ancestry and it was very interesting. I recommend their analysis to any person interested in learning more about their “Roots”. It costs approximately $100.00 and requires a small saliva sample. Their first analysis was cursory, but the follow up was very detailed. It gave a very detailed analysis of my African roots in terms of group and country. I wish I could have reached out to my ancestors to know their stories. Most of our family history starts in the early 1800s when some ancestors escaped to the North from Virginia. Once they came north, the history is known in detail, but I want to know information that is known in the mists of time. One day, I will have to visit some of these West African countries to see the forts of no return. It will be a journey to complete the circle. I was surprised at the amount of white lineage and contrary to family oral history; there was no Native American blood. I was surprised to find some Western Asian blood (Arab, Persian, and the Caucuses region). I wondered if it came from ancestors who travelled the Silk Road and the Spice Road. After finding out about Arabic roots, then I found there was some Jewish background. Many answers which lead to more questions.
