Recently friends of mine have both received an unusual volume of calls from scammers who are phishing for information or trying to get money by posing as IRS agents, creditors, etc. If you are current on our taxes and keep tabs on your credit tell the callers to leave you alone. And please take the time to report the incidents to the FTC via their website. Awareness regarding scams, phishing, etc, has gone up over the years but in light of these recent experiences I thought I’d send out a quick note with links to some basic resources; I figure it can’t hurt. Below are links to the FBI’s website addressing common fraud schemes and the FTC’s website on avoiding fraud: fbi.gov/scams-safety/fraud consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0060-10-ways-avoid-fraud#What_not_to_do Finally here’s a link to the FTC’s site for reporting complaints (including suspected scams, phishing, etc.): https://ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1 Ultimately a healthy degree of skepticism and caution will go a long way; also don’t forget you can (and should) check your free credit report each year.
