RecordingAfrica | Recording Africa is a non-profit travelling record label that aims to improve the well being and sustainment of African artists and communities through their altruistic music. Sharing a passion for earthy music and rich culture, music students Oliver Burton and Tobias Brent set out to document and preserve African traditions. Recording Africa was initiated late 2011; a nonprofit travelling record label. The aim: to sustain musicians and communities recorded with resources, creating a fair exchange on both sides. With much enthusiasm and the support of backers and donors, over three thousand pounds was raised in advance of the first trip to Africa; the dream became a reality! In January 2012, alongside 20MM Productions, they embarked on a hugely successful research project and social enterprise, to study and document the musical traditions of Senegal. Since returning, Recording Africa has officially registered as a charity & recently partnered with the British Library. February 18th 2013 marks the release of Recording Africa’s first package, which includes: An 11 track album. A 30-minute documentary. A 12-page booklet featuring original artwork and stories from Senegal. 100% of the profits generated from the physical package will allow Recording Africa to participate in further exchanges with struggling African musicians & their communities.
