Recycling Centre in Cowdenbeath In response to recent posts to this Facebook page regarding the recycling centre, the Community Council has approached our locally elected members and Fife Council to ask for clarity on the matter. From the face to face discussions and emails, we have been advised that no decision has been taken to close the recycling centre. However, as has been the case for the last few years, Fife Council are continually facing the challenge of finding more ways to save money. In recent years, about Nov/Dec time, all services within Fife Council are asked to submit proposals (including costings, savings, impact....etc) as to where they feel money could be saved. A review of all recycling centres in Fife could be one of these proposals. If Fife Council adopt the model they followed last year to show their transparency of the proposals which have been suggested, then we (community council) would expect in the next month or so, that members of the public will be asked for their comments on any proposals made. Last years public consultation on proposed savings began in Nov 2013 and ran through to mid Jan 2014, with final decisions on which proposals would be accepted being taken in Feb 2014. The Community Council has not been advised of any dates yet but are anticipating that word on when public consultations will happen will be publicised shortly. The inaugural meeting of the newly elected Community Council is on 20th November and this topic will be put on their agenda. In the interim time, we have learned that a local resident has set up an online petition to SAVE OUR RECYCLING CENTRE. Details are on the Cowdenbeath, past and present group.
