Red Pashmina Campaign looking for Women of Impact Peterborough residents who know a women making a difference are invited to tell their story Peterborough This Week By Sarah Frank PETERBOROUGH -- The Red Pashmina Campaign is on the hunt for Peterborough women making a difference in their community. As the deadly for the campaigns annual Women of Impact initiative approaches on Friday (March 21), residents are encouraged to keep their nominations rolling in, and add to the list of 150 Peterborough women whove already been recognized. According to Maryam Monsef, co-founder of the campaign, the 2013-2014 Women of Impact is all about ordinary women, doing extraordinary things in the community. Often, these women are quietly doing things behind the scenes, she says, adding the initiative also works to help connect Peterborough women of all ages and backgrounds with one another. Ive heard of the list on our website almost being used as a database. Every year, the campaign learns a little more about the women who are nominated, the work they do in the community, and helps to spread the word. The hope is that someday well be able to all of their stories, she says. Its something Ms Monsef would like to see implemented in Afghanistan as well. The details of this years initiative arent yet finalized, but Ms Monsef hopes to make some announcements soon. In previous years, the campaign has honoured the nominated women through a locally-made video and with photo shoots done by Peterborough photographers. We have no criteria as of yet, Ms Monsef says. We are looking to take our Women of Impact nominations to the next level. The fourth annual Red Pashmina Walk is also coming on April 26. Its 45-minute walk along Rotary Trail that aims to support on the-ground-intiatives for women in Afghanistan. The walk is held through a partnership with Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan -- an organization the campaign sponsors. Last year the walk raised roughly $5,000. The community has pleasantly surprised us every year, Ms Monsef says. Registration for the walk begins at 2:25 p.m. at St. Johns Anglican Church.
