{Reflections on Greatness: A 17,000km Trail Across North America to Celebrate My Father’s Life Beautifully Lived} My father, 55 years old, passed away in July of 2014 at the hands of glioblastoma multiforme — an aggressive and ultimately incurable form of brain cancer. Following the theme of Dad’s mantra, ‘Life changes fast, so Make Each Day Count’, my Mom, sister, and I spent the 6 months between diagnosis and death ensuring that all possible laughter, love, energy, and light was made available to him, every day. Along with his enormous network of friends and supporters, we packed every last picogram of life’s marrow into Dad’s last days — he remaining blazingly positive and enthusiastic all the while. When Dad shifted phases from the physical to the ethereal this summer, my Mom, sister, and I decided to continue living in Dad’s adventurous, ever-shining, ever-grinning spirit. We decided to make a grand adventure of the North American continent, reflecting on a spectacular life while dancing along the roads of a remarkable land mass. 17,000km over 55 days — the 27-foot Winnebago hummed along our circuitous route from Toronto to Calgary by way of Manitoba, North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon, and British Columbia. I did my best to capture this pivotal time for my family in a special way, so here I present to you a photo collection titled ‘Semi-Symmetry and Equanimity’, alluding to the way my Mom, sister, and I were able to reflect on a brilliant life in a state of calmness, acceptance, and positivity in the face of an overwhelming negative. We strive to say that we are living to Make Each Day Count. I encourage you to do the same, because there is no time for anything else.
