Reflections on being awake when I would rather be asleep: 1. I am adept with a chainsaw, but clumsy with needle and thread. 2. I rode a motorcycle for 20 years, and then gave it up so that I could stay safe. That was probably a mistake. I still drive a car. 3. My hands are gnarled and bony and work-worn. My fingernails are cracked and broken. I admire women who have lovely hands, but Ill bet they dont operate chainsaws, milk goats and dig in the dirt with their bare hands to pull out sweet potatoes. 4. I hate to look in the mirror, it destroys the good self-image I carry in my head.
